What Is Dental Abscesses?

A tooth abscess is an oral, facial, chin or throat infection that begins with a tooth infection. The initial cause may come from deep cavities, periodontal (gingival) disease, broken teeth, trauma, or sometimes even recent dental procedures such as tooth extractions and implants. Most infections are more likely due to poor dental health and may be due to the lack of proper and timely dental care. When they grow old and begin to leak and fail, they can also happen from previously performed dental procedures. Patients with underlying medical conditions, such as autoimmune diseases (Sjogren's syndrome and similar diseases) or diseases that impair the immune system (diabetes, radiotherapy/chemotherapy cancer care, or people receiving immunosuppressive therapy) may be more likely to develop Abscesses of teeth.
