Studies have shown that TMD may be associated with fibromyalgia, a chronic musculoskeletal pain and fatigue disorder that causes muscle, ligament and tendon pains, clinical, peer-reviewed general dental school (AGD) journals.
TMD and fibromyalgia produce similar pain symptoms in the neck, shoulders, back, face and head muscles. Dizziness and sleep disturbances may also be symptoms of both conditions.
"We have found that many patients with TMD problems also suffer from fibromyalgia later in life," said the report's lead author, DMD, Thomas P. Sollecito. "It is generally considered irrelevant and this potential link is being further explored."
