Use desensitizing toothpaste to reduce tooth sensitivity; allow dentists to apply sealants and other desensitizing and filling materials, including fluoride; and reduce the intake of acid-containing foods. Using tartar to control toothpaste can sometimes result in tooth sensitivity and drinking soft drinks throughout the day, so these habits should be avoided.
Avoid the use of a bristle toothbrush and excessive brushing, which can abrade the tooth surface and expose sensitive areas. The way to find out if you brush your teeth too hard is to take a closer look at your toothbrush. If the bristles point in multiple directions, you brush too hard.
