How is mouth inflammation treated?

The treatment of oral inflammation depends on several factors. The first is the severity of inflammation. If serious enough to stop you from eating, drinking, swallowing or speaking, go to the dentist right away. If the inflammation makes breathing difficult, seek urgent medical care immediately.

If inflammation does not interfere with normal functioning, try to determine the cause so that you can make adjustments to get your body cured. For example, if a food stimulates your mouth, you may want to change your diet.

If your mouth is injured and works properly, the problem is likely to heal within a few days. You can encourage treatment by keeping the affected area clean. If your symptoms do not improve within 3-5 days, or if they seem to get worse, contact your dentist and they can recommend the next step.
