What is Orofacial Pain?

Oral pain involves some clinical problems involving chewing (chewing) muscles or temporomandibular joints. Problems may include temporomandibular joint discomfort; head, neck and jaw muscle spasms; migraines, clusters or frequent headaches; or pain with teeth, face or jaw.

You swallow about 2000 times a day, which causes the upper and lower teeth to clump together and push them toward the skull. People with unstable bites, missing teeth or irregularly arranged teeth may experience problems because muscles are more difficult to gather together and cause tension. Clenching or grinding of teeth, trauma to the head and neck, or poor ergonomics may result in pain.

Some people may feel pain in the ears, eyes, sinuses, cheeks or side of the head, while others may buzz when they move the jaws, or they may even lock if the jaws are opened or closed.
