What should my dentist know about my medical history?

It is important to share your medical history with your dentist and take medications, especially serious illnesses like kidney, lung, heart or liver disease. Some dental drugs may interact with other drugs and cause your injury or treatment to fail.

Do not think your dentist knows your medical history. The most common reason for drug-related interactions is the lack of information about your medical history. Update and view your history each time you visit a dentist. Tell your dentist past prescriptions, except to tell him or her any adverse reactions. Include your list of vitamins, supplements or herbs, as well as any diet plan.
