Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is one of the most common infections - usually more common than the common cold. Common signs of gum disease include bleeding or red gums. If left untreated, this chronic infection can damage the bone supporting the teeth and may cause the teeth to fall off and increase the risk of other systemic diseases.
