When can you smoke after a tooth extraction?

For smokers, even after major surgery in the mouth, it is very difficult to temporarily stop using tobacco. Even if people are craving for cigarettes, they have to wait at least 72 hours after tooth extraction to smoke, including the removal of wisdom teeth.
You must understand the presence of chemical toxins in cigarette smoke, which may delay healing after surgery and may even lead to serious complications such as dry abscesses and inflammation. A dry socket presents an unpleasant odor in the mouth and very intense pain can spread over the entire face and it is difficult to open the mouth.
Also, the mechanism of smoking when inhaling cigarettes may expel newly formed blood clots. The clot is the first step in the healing process after tooth extraction. If it falls off, the person may also suffer from a dry outlet. I often suggest that my patients are smokers to use their oral surgery to quit smoking. But until now, I think I did not convince anyone!
