When to Seek Medical Care for Periodontal (Gum) Disease?

The dentist provides primary care for teeth and gum disease.
A person should visit his or her dentist for the following questions:
The gums began to bleed.
Gum swelling and pain.
Bad breath or bad taste.
The gums become very red or pale.
The teeth are painful.
The teeth are loose in the nest.
If you have any of these symptoms, plus fever, sweating, chills, or swollen face, go to the emergency room at the hospital.
Other reasons for going to the emergency department include:
The tongue feels swollen or pushed up from the bottom of the mouth.
Swelling occurs below the chin, especially if it is red, soft and warm.
