You can take the following steps to maintain oral health:
Keep blood glucose as close to the target as possible. Your doctor will help you set your target blood glucose level and teach you what to do if your number is too high or too low.
Eat a healthy meal and follow the meal plan you and your doctor or dietitian have made.
Brush your teeth at least twice daily with fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride prevents tooth decay.
The goal is to brush the first thing in the morning, before going to bed, after each meal, and in sugary or starchy desserts.
Use a soft toothbrush.
Gently brush your teeth with a toothbrush while tilting the gum line.
Use small circular movements.
Brush the front, back and top. Brush your tongue.
If the toothbrush looks worn or the bristles spread, replace the toothbrush every 3 months or sooner. The new toothbrush removes more plaque.
