What Is a Root Canal?

There is a soft tissue area called pulpal tissue under the enamel outside your teeth and in the dentin. Although the pulp tissue of the tooth does contain nerve fibers, it also consists of arteries, veins, lymphatic vessels, and connective tissue. The nerve of each tooth enters the tooth at its apex. From there, the nerve passes through the small root canal in the center of the root and connects with the pulp cavity. The root canal is small, with tiny divisions diverging from the top medullary cavity to the root tip. A tooth with at least one but no more than four root canals.
