How do I adjust to life with braces?

You may experience some discomfort or difficulty speaking or eating first. When wearing braces, keep teeth and brackets clean. If you wear a fixed non-removable brace, food and plaque may be trapped between the teeth and the gums. To reduce the risk of tooth decay, follow brushing, flossing and douche treatments, and reduce consumption of candy and carbohydrates. The combination of plaque and sugar produces acid which, if left behind, can cause teeth to fall off and tooth decay.
