The study showed that eating cheese may result in an increase in pH as chewing may lead to increased saliva production (the way the oral cavity naturally maintains the baseline acidity level). In addition, various compounds found in cheese may adhere to the enamel, helping to further protect the teeth from acid.
 
"It looks like the taste of dairy products is good," said AGD spokesman Seung-Hee Rhee of Hong Kong DDS. "Dairy products are not only healthier alternatives to carbohydrate or sugar-filled snacks, they can also be considered measures to prevent tooth decay."
