There are many minerals and nutrients that are good for the entire body. Here are just some of the minerals and nutrients your body needs to stay healthy:
calcium. Your teeth and chin are mainly made of calcium. If you do not have enough calcium in your diet, you may develop gum disease and tooth decay. Many foods and liquids contain calcium, such as milk, yogurt, cheese, beans, and oysters.
iron. Iron deficiency can cause your tongue to become inflamed and ulcers can form in your mouth. Many foods contain iron, including liver and red meat. Other iron-rich foods include wheat bran, some nuts and spices.
Vitamin B3 (niacin). Lack of vitamin B3 can cause bad breath and mouth ulcers. To increase your B3 level, eat chicken and fish.
Vitamin B12 and B2 (riboflavin). When you do not get enough vitamin B12 and B2, you can also develop aphthous ulcers. Red meat, chicken, liver, pork, fish and milk, yogurt and cheese are good sources of vitamin B12. Vitamin B2 is found in pasta, bagels, spinach and almonds.
Too little vitamin C. Vitamin C can cause gum bleeding and loose teeth. Sweet potatoes, raw red peppers and oranges are important sources of vitamin C.
Vitamin D. Ingesting enough vitamin D is very important because it helps the body absorb calcium. Diets that lack vitamin D or lack vitamin D can cause burning mouth syndrome. Symptoms of this condition include a burning sensation in the mouth, a metallic or bitter taste in the mouth, and dry mouth. Drink milk and eat egg yolk and fish to increase your vitamin D intake.
