Safe And Effective Infant Oral Care?

Follow these four steps to ensure proper oral care for your child:
1. Arrange your own tooth cleaning and inspection in the second trimester of your pregnancy. Basic cleaning and care are safe for your baby and reduce the risk of bacterial transmission and infection. It is not until the child is born that cosmetic surgery is performed, and emergency procedures such as tooth extraction are limited or delayed as much as possible.
2. According to the regulations of the ADA and the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, the baby's first dental health and oral examination should be scheduled to occur no later than one year old or first tooth burst. The goal of the first visit is:
Risk Assessment: Your pediatrician will decide on the need for additional measures based on the results of the tests.
Education: Pediatricians and pediatric dentists recommend a dental health visit every six months during the first five years.
Recommendation: This means choosing a pediatric dentist to provide comprehensive, consistent care over the next five years.
3. In the first year, clean the baby’s gums at least twice a day, morning and evening, and after feeding to prevent bacteria and food from building up. The best way is to wrap clean moist gauze with a clean index finger, and then gently wipe the baby's gums.
4. Brush your teeth with Colgate's fluoride-free toothpaste and toothbrush when your baby starts to have teeth. Look for soft bristles and easy-to-hold brushes for infants and children under 2 years of age.
