Is Gum Contouring Right For You?

Too much glue
People may present "sticky" smiles for a variety of reasons. Some people may have a naturally occurring high lip line, and smiles can show all their teeth and gums. Gum can also swell due to bacterial infections or poor oral care, or it can even increase abnormally due to the side effects of certain drugs. In addition, what is referred to as changing the condition of passive eruption can prevent permanent teeth from protruding completely, making the teeth look tiny and partially hidden due to excess gingival tissue.
Too little plastic
Too little chewing gum (or chewing gum decay) is usually more problematic than too many problems. In addition to making teeth look elongated or discolored, gingival atrophy exposes the roots of the teeth to harmful bacteria and plaque. The gingiva itself is a thin layer of soft tissue that covers the bone socket supporting the teeth, so loss of gingiva can sometimes point to bone loss. Gingival retraction can be limited to just a few teeth or generalized to the entire oral cavity. There are three main reasons for the deterioration of gums:
Excessive or rough brushing
Genetics
Periodontal (gingival) disease
