Screening starts at 18 years old
If you are an adult without tobacco and have no symptoms, your oral cancer screening should begin once every year from the age of 18. At this age, oral cancer screening during your dental exam is the easiest method. When you go for professional cleaning, your dentist can check for any unusual signs in your mouth.
You should also discuss with your dentist any symptoms you see or the symptoms you are experiencing. Symptoms of oral cancer include pain that cannot be healed in the mouth, persistent pain in the mouth, white or red patches on the tongue, lining or gums in the mouth, numbness in the numbness or sore throat, and symptoms do not improve.
