Why this handpiece was a game-changer for one practice

When Dr. Lawrence W. Kolar entered a new electric dental handpiece market, his needs were twofold: he was looking for more torque, but less vibration than his current model.

After a weeklong trial run of the new KaVo MASTERmatic M25L (1:5) and KaVo MASTERmatic M05 L mini (1:5) models, he was convinced. Just one week later at the ADA annual meeting, Dr. Kolar went directly to the KaVo booth and placed seven  handpieces orders. Here he tells us why:

What is your initial assessment of your dental handpiece?

My first reaction was that there must be something wrong with the handpiece, because when I turn on the handpiece, the voice is very low! I think they run much slower than the old motor I used before. To my surprise, the dental ward indicated that the dental handpiece is operating at an appropriate speed.

When I used some carbide crack drills and diamonds to make drills on some extracted teeth, I was amazed that the handpiece can cut quickly, with minimal noise, minimal vibration, and a smoother cutting surface. I can hardly believe that anything that has this power can work so smoothly, and it is relatively light and has a relatively small head. The balance of my dental handpiece is very good.

What other factors have you considered?

I think that when buying a handpiece, it's best not to think only about the cutting ability, but the cutting ability makes me most interested and surprised with the new KaVo model. That is to say, "uncontrollable power" is useless, so I must point out that this is a combination of power, with smooth, quiet operation, lack of obvious vibrations and the balance I have sold to me on the kava balance. This is a combination of all the above attributes, making KaVo my most reasonable choice.

This is superior and passed down.

What is your result?

In many cases, the [dentist] purchased "necessary" equipment that did not meet our expectations. This kind of buyer’s remorse often makes us unwilling to buy other needed equipment. However, in the case of my purchase of KaVo, I have never experienced buyer's confession. In fact, I plan to purchase additional KaVo handpieces (including the M25L 1:5 model, and the low-speed electric accessories I also own). The performance of these handpieces is better than any product I once owned or tried.

What is your patient's response?

I have already pointed out my new purchase to my patients. I mentioned to them that I always updated my practice with new improved dental equipment and materials, so I pointed out the fact that dental handpieces and them are smoother, quieter and have very little vibration. Many patients responded based on their past experience in my office, thinking that the new KaVo model is more quiet and smooth. Believe me, people are happy with this experience and they tell me!

Why do you recommend this product to your colleagues?

I recommend the KaVo M25L (even the M05L is suitable for dentists with many [pediatric] patients, or dentists who want the smallest head size without sacrificing efficacy). My advice is always based on my experience with kava handpieces and my experience with other brands. I told them the truth. In my experience, the KaVo M25L is the best dental handpiece on the market.
