Chewing sugarless chewing gum after meals helps prevent bad breath. Saliva production increases when chewed, which can help neutralize acid production and flush food particles in the mouth. Chewing parsley can produce the same effect, because it will also increase the saliva production.
Sugar-free chewing gum and xylitol can also help prevent tooth decay. Xylitol, a natural sweetener found in plants and fruits, has been shown to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans (cavities causing oral bacteria).
