What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?

If your tooth is removed, call a dentist immediately to make an emergency appointment. When your teeth are knocked down, it is important to see your dentist within an hour as this is the best chance your teeth will survive. Treat the tooth from the crown (top) instead of the root (bottom tip).
Touching the root of the tooth may damage the cells needed to reattach the tooth to the bone. Gently wash the teeth in the water to remove dirt. Do not scrub your teeth! Put clean teeth between your cheeks and gums and keep it moist. It is important not to dry your teeth. If you are unable to store your teeth in your mouth, wrap the teeth in a clean cloth or gauze and immerse them in milk or saline (for contact solutions). If the baby's teeth are removed, no more teeth should be implanted. See the patient as soon as possible to make sure there are no remaining teeth.
