Other instruments after each patient?

Dentists disinfect cell phones and other devices between patients to prevent the spread of the disease. Dental clinics follow and monitor specific thermal disinfection procedures, which are outlined by CDC and ADA. Most dental instruments are sterilized with special machines. It does not just need soap and water to make sure the instrument is free of bacteria. The recommended method of disinfection involves placing these tools in an autoclave (pressurized steam), dry-heat oven, or chemical vapor (often referred to as a chemical cartridge). Often, the device is kept in the office, away from the patient's field of vision. Ask your dentist to tell you how and where to sterilize the instrument.
