What is Sjögren's syndrome?

Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease in which one individual's leukocytes attack their own hydrating glands. About four million Americans have this situation. Most patients are women at the age of 40 at the time of diagnosis.
Sjogren's syndrome is difficult to diagnose because the symptoms vary widely. Patients may experience dry eyes, mouth and mouth, tiredness or joint pain, and also mimic the natural signs of aging.
