Over time, the teeth wear out for a number of reasons. Normal functions (eating and speaking), and some diets that promote tooth wear at different speeds. In addition to normal functions, the most common wear and tear on teeth is the occlusion or grinding of teeth (teeth that rub or rub against each other when you eat or swallow).
There are other reasons why your teeth may wear out:
Other habits, such as biting and chewing hard objects (such as pens, nails, or ice)
Prolonged exposure to acidic substances (such as soda, energy drinks, juice, coffee, etc.) or acid reflux
