What Is Gingivitis?

Gingivitis is a gum inflammation characterized by changes in color from normal pink to red, swelling, bleeding, often sensitive and sensitive. These changes can cause a layer of bacteria to gather along the gum line, and the body's immune system reacts to the release of destructive bacterial products.
Gum inflammation may also be caused by overexertion of brushing or flossing. Systemic diseases such as diabetes, pregnancy and general illness can put your gums at risk of gingivitis.
More than 75 percent of the population has gingivitis. It may be caused by a lack of effective oral health or hormonal changes in adolescence or early adulthood. Once it develops, gingivitis may persist or relapse.
Although gingivitis, once considered untreatable, inevitably leads to periodontitis, a more severe periodontal disease, it is no longer a scientific conclusion. Even if periodontitis is some form of gingivitis, untreated gingivitis does not necessarily lead to periodontitis.
