A dental hygienist is a licensed dental professional who specializes in preventive dental care, usually but not limited to oral health techniques. Local dental regulations determine the duties that health workers can perform. In some areas, dental regulations include the extension of the duties and immunities of dental hygienist. Some health workers can practice without dental supervision, using restricted bleaching techniques, and in some areas even use restrictive padding to restore teeth.
