I wouldn't suggest getting the OTC scaling instruments...
Using them could do you more harm than good. The only way to have a complete and thorough scaling is to have it done by a professional.
While it won't scrape off your enamel, you could inadvertantly deepen the sulcus if you 'dig' too deep...
