I think scanning them should work. Since they are black and white, you should be able to use black and white or grayscale patterns. You didn't say you had any problems scanning them, so I didn't know what to tell you. You should be able to set a specific size of the scan Settings to get the full image. You may try to close the automatic clipping setting if it continues to crop size and manually set the size. 300 dpi should be able to solve this problem well, but you can try 200 dpi to see if it's good enough.
